ANNIVERSARY CUSTOM GRADE LEVER ACTION CARBINE WITH MATCHING FACTORY BOX. Cal. 44-40. S# JW100C0278. Bbl. 18 1/2". 1 of only 1,000 Model 1892 John Wayne Custom Grade lever action carbines mfg. in Japan by Miroku and imported by BACO for Winchester commemorating John Wayne's centennial. The left side of the bbl. is marked with the Winchester trademark logo, followed by "Model 1892 John Wayne Custom Grade" as well as the cal. designation, with Miroku's mfg. and BACO's importer information marked on the right. Top of the bbl. is marked with John Wayne's signature in gold characters. Sides of the receiver feature scroll engraving, which extends to the sides of the lever. Left side of the receiver features a gold inlaid vignette of John Wayne on horse back, followed by a gold banner that reads "1907", JOHN WAYNE AMERICAN", and "2007", as well as a gold portrait of John Wayne, with the right side of the receiver featuring a gold inlaid vignette of John Wayne, followed by a banner reading "COURAGE", "STRENGTH", and "GRIT", as well as a "JW" between two banners that read "JOHN WAYNE" and "CENTENNIAL". Metal components exhibit a high polish blue finish overall. Single band fastened high grade satin finished checkered wood forearm and straight grip buttstock (with blued steel carbine buttplate) feature fleur-de-lis accents. Pinned brass blade front sight with dovetailed U-notch ladder rear sight. Receiver features a saddle staple and ring, with a tang sliding safety and enlarged loop lever. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: matching factory box with cardboard sleeve. CONDITION: near new, with metal components retaining virtually all of their original factory finish overall. Lever loop retains its factory hang tag. Brilliant mirror bore, retaining well defined rifling throughout. Proper manual mechanics. Wood furniture shows a few small and light superficial marks from handling and storage, but otherwise remains excellent overall. Box and sleeve show some wear from handling and storage, but otherwise remain sound. An exceptional example of a rare Winchester 1892 John Wayne 100th Anniversary Custom Grade carbine. (25-5788/MLW).
